Tom Nieman

Development Director for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

Tom joined the SDSU Foundation team in March 2025 as the Development Director for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. A Kansas native, Tom has called South Dakota home since 1980, when his family moved to Huron, SD. He is a 1990 graduate of SDSU with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. Tom’s background is in storytelling and sales, with his first job as a sports reporter in local TV news. Prior to joining the Foundation, he served as a play-by-play announcer for a regional TV network covering college athletics, including numerous Jackrabbit events. Tom and his wife, Tyann, live in Sioux Falls. They have four daughters – Hannah, Olivia, Sophia, and Mya – and one grandson, Jack.
